. . . Like I mentioned, I decided to stay with Vista. The new (refurb) machine (an HP) has worked well. The new Hard drive also worked out well in the older machine, although restaging it took longer than I thought. The basic Vista OS that came with the PC (a Gateway) was fairly old. So, after all of the basic installation, it needed service pack 1 and 2, each almost 500 MB in size, taking hours each. But, it is clean and fast, like a new PC.
The one feature I miss from the Windows 7 is the Media Center. In Vista, the version doesn't bring in as many channels (even though I have just the one tuner, which they both used). 7 had many, many more channels to choose from. I have looked a little but can't find a way to upgrade just the Media Center (vs. going to 7 completely). Oh, well.
Everything is working, which is most important.
